Raising the Sails: Flipping the Triangle to Build Webs of Support

“Flipping the Triangle” and the Full-Color Webs of Support™ framework both center on one idea: students succeed when adults are supported and connected.

MTSS is traditionally used for student support, but this model “flips” it to focus on educator wellness. Tier 1 builds a positive staff culture, Tier 2 provides mentoring and real support, and Tier 3 offers intensive help like mental health resources. This prevents burnout and strengthens staff capacity.

The Brightways framework complements this by emphasizing students’ Web of Support, including the “Rule of Five” caring adults and protective factors that build resilience. These supports rely on strong, authentic relationships.
