Equitable Student Resilience Through  Strengths-Based Connections

Corrie.jpg

As students begin their journies to inclusion, the importance of developing social, emotional, and resiliency skills increases. In this workshop, you will learn how to see and strengthen webs of support around your students. You’ll discover interactive lesson plans that help students identify and bolster their own connections with caring and connected adults. When students have strong webs of support, they become more resilient and their SEL skills improve. Through these easy-to-teach lessons, students gain a better knowledge of themselves—who they are, what they should strive for, what they should avoid, and who can support them. February 6, 2021, 12:00-12:45 Alaska Standard Time.

The Power of Enduring Relationships: Teaching Students Resilience Skills to Thrive for Life

Join Beth Buchanan for an engaging session that will blend a variety of leading-edge research and expertise for viewing and supporting students, especially in the secondary grade levels. Participants will gain new understanding of how brain science, relationships, and protective factors play a role in mitigating ACEs and in a student's social and emotional development. Beth will focus on how to educate adults and empower youth to seek and develop safe, consistent relationships with adults that builds a launching pad for success. Participants will learn about the powerful and easy to understand Integrative Youth Development (IYD) framework that can set the foundation to make this happen for every student. As Bruce Perry, Senior Fellow and clinical researcher at The ChildTrauma Academy, tells us: “What works best is anything that increases the quality and number of relationships in a child’s life. People, not programs, change people.”. Learn more about the convention>>
